The Challenge:

Honeywell Building Solutions, a division of Fortune 100 company Honeywell, designs and manufactures technologies to address some of the world’s toughest challenges linked to global macrotrends, such as energy efficiency, clean energy generation, safety and security within the commercial building environment for large facilities like hospitals, universities, and airports. In June 2013, at the company’s annual user group meeting, HBS made a promise to its customers to provide a more consumer-grade experience to its end-users, by creating a mobile, social app to access building and campus operations. However, eight months went by and no progress was made due to limited internal resources and development know-how.

The Solution:

In early 2014, HBS engaged with Appirio and its crowdsourcing community to create this promised app. Ten weeks later, Honeywell had a working prototype of the Attune mobile app. The iOS app, built on the Salesforce Communities platform, gives customers mobile access to critical operations information and analytics so they can anticipate and proactively manage equipment and operations decisions within their facilities, Collaboration capabilities using Salesforce Chatter gives customers easy and immediate access to Honeywell’s 10,000 technical professionals across the globe.

The Results:

In an industry used to weekly status reports, Honeywell’s Attune mobile app thrives on real-time data that triggers alerts, increases social collaboration within the organization and allows facility maintenance teams to tap into predictive analytics in order to infer conditions that result in more informed decision-making and ultimately, reduced costs.
