Roche

A single communication platform for calendar and email for all divisions worldwide.  And long-term cost savings by replacing legacy on-premise systems with a scalable, cloud-based infrastructure.

Challenge: Global Company Lacked Common Collaboration Platform

  • Corporate Roche, and subsidiary Genentech, were on separate communication platforms, Microsoft Exchange for Roche and Google Apps for Genentech
  • The complex infrastructure slowed communications and productivity
  • Poor calendar integration between the systems became problematic for users
  • Needed single messaging and collaboration platform to connect 252 global sites, 157 countries, and 85,000+ global users

Solution: Google Apps for 85,000+ Global Users - 1.5 Year Project

  • Collaborated with the customer to design, stress test, and roll out a synchronized migration and mail journaling infrastructure that could support 10,000+ simultaneous user migrations
  • Implemented 27 migration weekends for 85,472 accounts
  • Migrated the following user data:
    • User and shared mailbox emails
    • Local PST files
    • Previous year calendar data and any future events
    • Personal contacts
    • Out-of-office notices
    • Resource calendars
    • Labeled email for retention
  • Partnered with Boost eLearning to create training documentation in 13 different languages
  • Provided on-site, post go-live user support

Results: Google Apps Connects Global Users

  • Project has been called "The first project to break down walls between Pharma and Diagnostics at Roche"
  • Single communication platform for calendar and email for all divisions worldwide
  • Well coordinated migration weekends helped mitigate any negative business impacts
  • Long-term cost savings by replacing legacy on-premise systems with scalable, cloud-based infrastructure
  • Roche is now well positioned to take advantage of advanced Google capabilities, such as Google Drive, Google+, and Google Hangouts
